Choosing the Correct Fuse for Vintage Audio Equipment

Match all of the markings

Before replacing any fuse, read the equipment's manual or fuse label. You must match the specified current rating, voltage rating, speed or time-delay characteristic, and physical size.

A fuse that looks similar can be electrically wrong. A larger fuse may allow a fault to damage costly transformers, output transistors, circuit boards, or wiring before it opens.

• Use the manufacturer's specified rating only.
• Never bypass a fuse or increase its rating.
• A replacement that blows again is evidence of a fault, not a request for a larger fuse.

Protect the equipment and yourself

Unplug the equipment before inspecting a fuse. If the holder is internal or the cause is unknown, arrange qualified service instead of repeatedly applying power.
